EMS Academy is a study and research centre established by the Kerala State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in remembrance of the veteran communist leader and Marxist philosopher Com. EMS Namboothiripad (13th June 1909-19th March 1998).
Immediately after the sad demise of Com. EMS in 1998, CPI(M) instituted the EMS Academy Trust and thought-out to have an appropriate memorial for his significant contributions to the political and socio cultural spheres of Kerala.The mission received generous support of the general public. CPI(M) General Secretary Com. Harkishan Singh Surjeet laid the foundation stone for the memorial building on 19th March 1999 on the land purchased by the EMS Academy Trust at Vilappilsala, Thiruvananthapuram and inaugurated the building on 19th March 2001.
The Academy currently provides regular classes on organizational matters for party cadres. Study camps for class and mass organizations, training for teachers to conduct party classes in the district and local levels and workshops for comprehensive studies on contemporary issues and the relevance of Marxism are also marshaled within the Academy. Extended workshops for indepth studies on contemporary issues and Marxism are also organized.
Long term courses - These programmes are open to those interested in understanding the contemporary India in the Marxist-Leninist perspective.
The EMS Academy has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting ample research so as to publish a comprehensive history of the Communist Party of Kerala and proceedings are under way. The library, functioning within the campus, provides adequate support for the same. Scholars from within and outside the state and country habitually visit the library and make viable use it.
The academy has a museum on EMS’s life and a collection of rare pictures of the legendary Marxist adorning its walls.
The academy has hostel facilities to accommodate three hundred and fifty participants at a time. There is also a faculty guest house for teachers. A canteen is also run within the campus.
The EMS Academy is an eco-friendly campus. The centre promulgates integrated and organic farming. Poly house is also being used. Along with the greenery, cattle, ducks and fish have become part of the integrated farming venture. The campus that prides of being an eco-hub assures the much acclaimed medicinal plants garden and biodiversity park as its gratified specialties.
